Surface Decoration Workshop
(3 Sessions of 2 hours: Louise Cormier and Heather Sorochan)

Where: Guild Studio
In these sessions we will cover a number of approaches to surface enhancements using mainly tiles and culminating in a four-tile design project. We will cover the following:

Painting with layers of coloured slip: using sgraffito, wax & paper resists, cutting back

Impressing for texture: using stencils, made stamps, found objects, carving

Transfers: using commercial Chinese transfers and your own tissue transfer

Design: We will develop a larger design (4 tiles6”x6”) using several of our techniques

Glazing: We will examine and incorporate various low fire clears

Materials List

Sketch book, brushes, rolling pin, cutting wire, sponge, plastic & metal ribs, fettling knife or boxcutter, ruler, plastic sheeting, tools for sculpting or cutting into clay (optional).
