1. Clay working tools
Metal and
rubber ribs. A soft rubber rib is very helpful.
Scoring
tools
Needle tools
Sponges
small and large
Wire cutter
Canvas to
work on unless provided by school
Old toothbrush
Brushes for
painting underglazes ( soft bristle brushes), and also for wax and shellac.
Towel
2. Clay for
Handbuilding. 25-50 lbs.
I use terracotta clay primarily with some white earthenware, but all these
techniques can be done with any clay that handbuilds well, it does not have to
be low fire.
3. A variety of objects to roll into wet clay to make texture slabs.
4. Bone dry greenware for trying out surface techniques, although we will be making work and these pieces can be forced dry and used .
5. Optional, bisqueware that is textured to try some staining .
